Panther escaped, can't find him? Help!

huntsville Mar 26, 2006 06:13 PM

Anybody got any knowledge on this? He's young, the room has cords, cables, all sorts of things for him to climb up on; but he's nowhere to be found. Do they sometimes crawl under things?

Thanks

"...If I were an escapee panther chameleon...where would I go?..." -My advice, check behind things. My guess is he won't want to be out in the open, but in a more secluded area. He will also probably be fairly high up, as chameleons feel most comforted the higher up they are. How little is he- Make sure to watch your step! -And good luck Your bound to find the little guy. May I ask how he escaped?

I'm sorry to here that you lost your little chameleon buddy.... I think that the best place to be would be near the cables like you stated. He will probably be munchin on all the dust bunnies back there

Do you have any windows in the room? I bet he'll be sitting there in the middle of the day. Try and approach the room quietly so you dont startle him. If he is startled he will run off and he might get hurt trying to escape.

How did this happen is what id like to know too! Chameleons are no escape experts!

Good luck!

also check on the legs of your chairs or the legs of your beds... And sometimes they are right in front of your face!! LOL, I lost my anole the other night ( that didn't sound right) but anyways, He was in my office when I lost him, and I found him on the leg of a chair, just hanging out. The whole time, he could see me.... but I couldn't see him!

this happened to me once when i freeranged my cham for a few days

the one time i couldn't find him he was on top of the DOOR

he climbed up the wall using the door crack....and got on top of the door frame..and when i opened the door, he was on top of the actual door!

They are amazing climbers..look all the way up to the ceiling or you will probably be looking too low!

Also in the day time check the window blinds..they love to go here when the sun is coming through the window...my veiled always gets cranky if i try to get him off...have to get him with a towel usually!

First thing to do is to make sure he's in a particular room. Ifit's not
closed off, it could be anywhere. Mine always ended up in cloths
baskets, or behind the toilet. At night, they climb up lamp posts,
curtains and cords.

Get a chair, put it in the middle of the room, and stand on it. Look
around, slowly. They will get on top of things and then hide - sometimes
you have to get a different angle on them to find them. how big is he?
Smaller ones tend to stay relativly low, bigger ones go as high as they
can get.

The best time to look is at night. Keep the lights off, and go in with a
flashlight. They lighten up and become more reflective at night. Works
well, even if they're outside in a tree!

Be careful, when they hide, they tend to get in places they can get
smashed in (doors, hinges, etc)

Hey Guys

Thanks for all the tips. He's somewhere in my snake rooms, in my snake building, which is escape-proof. It has metal walls so he can't climb them. I've looked at night with a flashlight, no luck. Not by the windows, not seemingly anywhere. He's a male, about 5" long. He's gotta be in some little cranny or nook...

Nice pics, thanks

Good luck.

Not a factor, can't get in the snake cages at all.

I hade a tokay escape a cage when my window was open in my room on the 5th floor of my dorm; 2 months later i found her behind my dresser. I understand it's totally different with cams but if it's not up high look behind everything. please let us know where it is if you find it. An escaped cam is a new one on me. Also, got any friends that like to jooke around? I had a copperhead "escape" by getting stolen once.

It might be wise to keep the seat of the toilet down so that he can't get into it. He will drown in something like a toilet very easily. Good luck.

My female panther escaped one day when I did not latch the door of her cage. I found her across the room on a curtain string behind the curtain. She was up very high because they like to climb.
