I was told Black pastels make darker "Black" supers while cinnamons make more of a brownish super!

Anybody care to shed some light?

I have seen some that were pretty black coming from cinny x cinny breeding. I don't know if there have been enough supers coming from black pastels to really say, but in general most people believe that black pastels make darker supers. RDR produced some last year that looked really really jet black, don't remember if those were from black pastels or cinnys...

Just my opinion, but after looking at photos of Ralph's 'Cinnamons' I'd say they are better called 'Black Pastels'.

Reason being, they have the black 'speckling/smudging' in the light areas of the pattern, and an overall darker colouration like the various lines of Black Pastel.

To see the difference for yourself compare photos of Ralph's or Harford Reptile Breeding Centre's lines to Graziani's or BHB's lines.

On a related note, has anyone crossed a Cinny to a Black Pastel yet? (ex: Harford X Graziani/BHB)

As much as people who payed extra for a black pastel hate to admit it, they are really the same thing, just slightly different in coloration. Some people have produced cinny colored snakes from black pastels and black pastels from cinnys...so how are they different...

However, blacker cinnys will more often produce blacker offspring. Browner cinnys will more often produce browner offspring. It is really no different from pastels. Lighter pastels usually produce lighter offspring. Doesn't make them a separate morph...does it?

Black Pastels make darker supers. I have seen both types of supers, and the Black Pastels are darker. You have to look at sub adults, or adults to really get the feel of what color they are. Super Cinny's sometimes have brown blotches, or cirle spots on their bodies. Black Pastel supers are pretty much black all the way through. I am sure there are variations out there, and even dark Super Cinny's, but for the most part Super Blacks are more consistent. Here are GCR Lines of Super Blacks.
