Heating questions

Tarzana Jul 28, 2003 10:11 PM

Around what temperature is the air supposed to be on the warm end of a bearded dragons tank? I have heard that if the air on the warm end is 85 then the combination of the basking lamp and UTH should make the ground a suitable 100-105 degrees. Is this true? How do I check the temperature of the substrate? I have until September to learn the basics, so I would love any help. Thanks

The cool side of your tank should be in the mid 70s. Younger beardies prefer basking temps closer to 110.
I do not recommend using an under tank heater for a bearded dragon. A basking light should be enough.
The best way to check the temp is with a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer with a probe. The analog dial type are junk. Walmart or Kmart has the digital kind with probe for around $15. Later...damin
