too hot?

mack1time Mar 27, 2006 06:02 PM

Okay so i have lamps and everything for my one boa tank which didn't seem to suffice for heat. Now i have installed a zoo med heat pad under the hot side of the tank. When i checked with my tempgun the top side of the glass over the heat pad was at 112 degrees f. Is this to hot if the snake moves the substrate and lays directly on the glass? What if i put a magazine between the heat pad and glass?

It sounds like you have no controling device attached to the heat pad. Are you using a rheostat (dimmer) or thermostat? If not, you need to. You can get an inline dimmer at Home Depot or Lowes for $11. That will allow you to control the output of the pad.

It should be betweeen 88-90 F. I do not know about the magazine or if it would be safe. Hate to have it catch on fire.

A rheostat or thermastat is your best option.
