Normal x albino = ?....

-ryan- Mar 27, 2006 10:17 PM

I'd like to get my male leopard gecko some female companionship this summer in his 70 gallon tank (such a big tank for one leo). I was thinking it would be great to get maybe one female albino leo, and one female leucistic (as these are two kinds that I really enjoy looking at). My question is, since he is normal, what would they produce? Would all the offspring just be hets, or would some exhibit the traits of the mothers?

Since those are both recesive traits, you wouldn't see anything like the mom's untill the second generation.

Normale x Albino = all normals het albino

If you bred them back to mom you would get half albino and half normal het albino.

Depends. He may appear normal but could be het for patternless or the right kind of albino, etc. If he is then you might get a "surprise" in your offspring. Same thing's true about the females so if he is het for tremper albino and the patternless is het for tremper albino, you could possibly get an albino with 100% het patternless. Lots of variable that may not be obvious (unless you know the history of each).
