I have seen some great info on the techniques of probing and have seen it done, but I have never seen size recommendations for the probes themselves.  I have seen kits that include sized  .035", .062", .078", .093", .125" and  .187" probes. Can anyone suggest the appropriate size for a 4' Ball python?  What about  an 8" Kenyan sand boa?  Any help you can give would be appreciated.
                    Thank you, Kerry

I don't have a standard bought off the shelf probe kit, so my response may not be that helpfull.

A 4 foot python should be okay to probe with something the diameter of say 3-5mm.

A 8 inch KSB needs a delicate hand, and unless really necessary, I'd wait until larger. If need be, a 2-3mm probe might work okay, but if the snake struggles much, you risk damaging some tissue. If really concerned, consider taking to the vet for sedation.

Hope this helps,
Ian
