Best Heating Mechanism

the_jackel Mar 28, 2006 07:34 AM

Hello Everyone...I have been lurking for awhile but decided today was the day to come out of the closet(or should I say cage)

In the past I have kept just about every type of reptile but got out of it for awhile (my mistake).

Anyway I am back and decided to build my own cages (approx. 48" X 24" X 15" 3 stacked then sectioned off to limit space while the darlings grow.

My question is what type of heating is everyone using? I called Boaphile about their radiant heat panels (thinking they were the best source) and the sale person told me not really and to just install a ceramic fixture and heat light. This sounded odd so I thought I would ask everyone their opinion.

Thanks for your help,
Sean

I use both under belly heat using thermostatic control heat tape and radient heat panels from Pro Products. It all depends on your ambient air temperatures and the type of caging you use. I use Vision cages (models 322 and 432) so typically use either 3-4' x 11" heat tape or radient panels or both.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input...I keep my house around 63 in W and 73 in S and am custom building the cages out of MDF 4' X 2' X 15" with sliding glass doors...I was leaning toward the heat panels as the best long-term solution which based on your feedback seems like it will work.

What is everyone else using? Are the panels really worth it..or are they more hype than anything and a simpler (cheaper) solution is just as good?

Thanks all.
