Lele... question about Darwin

nymph Mar 28, 2006 03:35 PM

He sure is beautiful... well handsome since he is a guy Where did you get him?? Is he a citrus??? What kind of setup do you have for him?? I would like one but I knew some people who have 2 and I don't think they care for them properly because they stink and were fat.. I don't know what they ate...

he is of citrus bloodline and also turned out to be a translucent. I got him from a friend in FL who I got Luna from. He arrived at about 2.5 months last April and just turned 1 year in Feb. He's been in a semi brumation so it has a been a weird winter! He is in his first shed since sept. and having a terrible time Finally all is off his big head! lol! He shed three legs and the front of his head!! It was in the 50's today so I took him out for a walk

Darwin is actually "toilet trained!" In the morning he lets me know when/if he has "to go" by running up along the glass. I put him in his warm tub and he's done! Then I rinse him and the tub and fill with clean water for a swim or soak. His tank is pretty much spotless! He has been a very finicky eater but I am hoping with the season change and warmer days he will get back on track.

The stink of the ones you know is due to not cleaning the cage properly, which is not only gross, but unhealthy. Lizard poop stinks. period. Insects and veggies fermenting in a hot belly....mmmm....stinky! :-O I used the non-adhesive shelf liner and no substrate and it works out great. Easy to clean. As for them being fat they are obviously overfed and likely the wrong types of food as well. Bd's are pretty docile animals and I think b/c they "put up" with so much they are easily abused/neglected. makes me very sad Darwin's a pretty lucky guy, I found a 75gal tank on ebay 1.5 hours from me (for $65!!!) that included a wrought iron stand AND a brand new 4' strip light fixture.

Check out the KS bd forum sometime and be sure to check out Veronica's site (below). Oh, if you want more pics of him I have some in the KS BD photo gallery under my name

here he is bathing, napping with Kyndra and his translucent belly ...thanks for asking

beautiful dragons

That is probably the one thing I didn't enjoy about my beardie...when the time came he could really stink up the room! I rescued a huge German giant morph when it was brought into a herp shop I worked at. He was a wonderful guy, a clown and so very social. Such a treat after all my chams I could never believe that here was a herp who liked me around. But again, he produced an amazing amount of poop (often while he was running around loose on the carpet too).

peeuuiiieee! He almost never goes in his tank anymore (has me well trained) but anytime I get a whiff I realize how spoiled I am, too!! Not sure what'll happen when I go away and he has to poop in the tank and wait for someone to clean him up! Maybe I'll just let him live in the bathtub while I'm away! lol! Actually, that may not be such a bad idea!
