Sand geckos

birdznfrogs May 19, 2003 12:48 PM

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some info on sand geckos. I can't find any info on the net,...(Its all in dutch).
So, I was wondering,
First does anyone make own them? Do like them?
What is a good temp?
What is a good humidity?
Whats a good substrate?Is T-rex ok(Very fine sand)?
Should they have a hide out box, that has something like moss in it?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your time!!!

Steven

Hello,
Never realized how many different sand geckos there was, till i did a little more reasearch,...lol.

Well, the ones at my local exotics petstore, are small, like around 6cm. There mighty cute, and I'm prettty sure thats all they get. The names not on the tank, but I remember the name sand geckos. I think they may be as your website calls them "Stenodactylus petrii".(I know this is the latin name).

Look sort of similar. But, then again there's tons of different little sand geckos.

Thanks for your help.
I'll post if I get one, or two of the little guys.

For care, I know;
-Feed-appropriate sized crix, waxworms, maybe even fruit flies.
-Two inches of very fine sand is good
-Have a water bowl
-Have hiding places

Whats a good watt for these guys? Any lightbulb products you recommend?

Once again, any gecko basics would be good

i currently keep 1 steno petrii in a 10g. i feed it crickets (pinheads and 1/4 inch) and mealworms..(dont let their small fool you, mine LOVES adult mealies...)for heating, i use a UTH left on 24/7 (covering 1/2 the bottom) and a 50W bulb for daytime.I use 2-3 inches of sand, because they love to dig under piecesof cork.....remember to dust the food. hope this helps.......ps- their common name is "israeli sand dune gecko"..
