Help, My American Bulldog just got bit by either a South Pacific or a Red Diamond!!!

USNHM242 Jul 28, 2003 11:45 PM

I was inside my house when I saw that his left lip/muzzle was swollen 3X the size of his right muzzle. Upon inspection I found 2 puncture wounds about 1 1/4"in apart. I belief he must have gotten bit by either a South Pacific or a Red Diamond rattler, since they are the only ones that occur in this area. I just called all the vets in my area and no one carries antivenin. The emergency vet said that I took him to said that they can only provide supportive care for him but they can offer no direct treatment for the bite. I have all the Intravenous equipment and airway maintenance equipment here at my home available. I have administered 70mg of Benadryl. My question is what is the venom composition and strength of these two species. I know this wasn't a dry bite because of the extreme swelling he is demonstrating along with the extreme swelling of his lymph nodes. Also is there anything further I can do help my dog. Thanks for any info and help.
