Are you sure???

EmberBall Mar 28, 2006 04:44 PM

I can pick an Albino out of a 1000 lot of Balls. I can pick a Pastel out of the same lot, with 99.9% certainty. I can also pick out a Spider, but who can pick out a Cinn, YB,Axanthic, Fire, etc., with 100% certainty. If someone sells a wc Axanthic, how can they be sure it is an Axanthic, same with a Cinn, Ghost, etc.

They would just sell them as WC unproven Axanthics or whatever wouldnt they? . . With a higher price tag thow. Thats the way I'd see it goin.

sucks even worse if your color blind...
I took a look at a friends "burgundy" hypo that he is trying to prove out... greens/browns, they all look the same to me. If I ever buy something like a green ghost, I am going to really have to take their word for it.. oh well, such is life.

because only about 1 in 100 is actually genetic...
Look at how many proven lines there are compared to how many WC axanthics there are. There should be new lines popping up every year if any of them proved out...

I agree. I brought this up for two reasons. One, if you are selling wc animals as proven morphs, how can you be sure? Yeah, if it is a wc Albino, no problem. But, what about YB's, Cinns, and lastly Fires. Which leads me to my second point. If people could easily identify wc morphs, why can't my Embers be identified as Fires, or no, they are not Fires for the following reasons....

Well fires are fires because they are het leucistics. Your embers will only be fires when (if) you produce a lucy. And I doubt you'll get top dollar for them until you prove they can make lucys. There was another morph not too long ago that people thought were fires... instead we were blessed with a new type of pastel (vanilla or lightning, whichever you prefer). Although, undoubtedly a lot of money was made on these as a new morph, it is not close to that made on fires...

It will be interesting to see what you come up with, it might be something new all together.

Is a Yellow Belly a Yellow Belly, or is a Het Ivory different from a Yellow Belly? Can you only sell a snake that has produced an Ivory as a Het Ivory? If a Yellow Belly is the same as a Het Ivory, then it should reason that a Fire is a Fire and a Fire is a Het Black Eyed Lucy. If there are 10 traits needed to be a Yellow Belly, and the snake has all 10 traits, does it still need to be proven with an Ivory, or assuming it is a wc snake, can one sell it as a Yellow Belly, or Het Ivory? I am keeping my two Embers from last year, and will see what happens this year. I will try to prove it out one way or the other before I sell any snakes from the Ember female. I have a good day job My point in all of this is, can you sell a wc cinnamon as a cinnamon, can you sell a wc Fire as a Fire, can you sell a wc Axanthic as an Axanthic, without proving them out?

because no matter how much the morphology looks like a certain genotype trait is present, it doesn't mean that genotype is actually there.
