I have a beared dragon, ball python, and a gtp. I am considering getting another reptile. I would like to get an Arg. Tegus, but I would like to hear comments from owners on them. I know they can grow to 4 feet and can give painful bites, but my main concern is taming them. Are they difficult to tame and can they be held frequently. I ask this because I would like to get a nice size lizard that I can handle. Thanks for the comments!

Arg. black and white tegus are awesome and very tame if you handle them everyday. Although they dont really like to be carryed around much they would rather walk around by them selfs out of the cage. They are great pets. Oh and if you do get one be ready to build atless a 8'x4' cage really quick as they grow so fast.

in my OPINION arg. tegus are one of the most FUN AND INTERACTIVE large lizards,i kept 2 of them from 93 til 2001.i left the reptile hobby for a few years and have recently started my collection again.so i got a female about a month ago,and let me tell you she WAS evil!but i have found which most "pros" concur,that the important thing is feeding.a regular schedule and regular dish is essential,on days i go in here cage that she hasn't eaten she is still a bit rammy(feeding response).in the short month i have had her,her attitude towards me has changed so drastically it's quite amazing,how there is no longer fear of me...which is probably nothing more than learning to associate me with food.and she is quite intelligent on top of it...with my girlfriend she is only happy if she is snuggled real close under neath a leg or something,but with me she wants to be on my shoulder or somewhere up high.i say go for it,get one...and enjoy they really are quite rewarding.
