I know it's been a long time but I'm going to attempt to load a photo of Houston.

The spots on his belly are pretty much gone. I still have no idea what it was. We put some of my little girl's skin medicine on it. I guess it helped.

Ok, I forgot how to load a photo.

That was a photo that I already had on kingsnake.com. If someone can tell me how I got it here to begin with, I can put the recent photos of him.

momto6 Mar 28, 2006 07:10 PM

Ok, I saved the photo on here so that I could post it. I hope it works. He's still skinny. He has never been a fat lizard, but he very active and eats plenty.

What was he eating in that shot??

momto6 Mar 28, 2006 09:26 PM

He's eating an Anole. He doesn't always eat them. My son threw it in there and he grabbed it and starting eating it.

He wasn't too excited about me holding him upside down, but he was very still for the photo anyway. Everytime he sheds it gets better. We still have paper towels in his cage. I think we'll keep it that way since it seems to be the only way that it seems to get better.

Wow, you've done an amazing job nursing him back to health. I'm impressed. You're a very dedicated lizard parent to have been through so much with him. Good job.

By the way, there are at least a few of us on here that like anoles (almost) as much as collareds, and I think you just broke a couple of hearts with that picture But I'm willing to forgive you for the picture if you keep doing such a fine job looking after Houston's health--and if you promise not to post anymore shots of lizards eating other lizards . . . I know it happens, but I don't want to think about it! I'm too much of a softie for the little guys.

Sorry about the lizard eating lizard photo. We really didn't intend for him to eat him. We just put him in there with him. Apparently, it's something they eat in the wild or he wouldn't have jumped on it. Must be something he needs to have in his diet? I promise not to post anymore photos like that. We have tons of Anoles around here and I just never thought of them as a long term pet. The kids usually catch and release.

lizard_lover Mar 29, 2006 07:35 PM

No problem.

By the way, I had one guy (who was a very sick adult when I found him) live with me for five years; and I have another anole now who has been with me for over three. They really can make long-term pets--and pretty cool ones at that.

you know, it is funny that you are posting because i am going through something similar and i actually searched the kingsnake archieves to find your original posts to get the name of the disease someone gave to you.

lucia has blister disease, i think. no one has really said it is it specifically but she has blisters all on her sides and tummy. unfortunately red spots are now appearing on her eyelids. she acts happy and healthy.

lucia's spots started out on her sides and one on her belly button and eventually grew together to make one big spot and the spot on her stomach spread up further. i will be going to my fourth vet on friday, who is an exotics specialist. even when i explained the situation to the receptionist, she said it would be best if i wait from him to get back.

anyway, oddly enough lucia is shedding right now. the top part of her blisters began to shed today and most of that blister and the brown spots went away. that was never really a big blister. i hate to see what happens when the big ones go to peel.

anyway, it gives me hope that houston got better. i hope lucia does too. it has been very taxing on my emotions

I sure hope she gets better. We did remove all of the bedding per someone's instruction. At one point we had crushed walnut shells in there. We cleaned all of that out and went with the paper towels. We have stuck with paper towels ever since. I even put neosporin on him when it looked really raw. I don't remember seeing the name of what he had/has, maybe it was posted later. I haven't been here in awhile. I'll go see if I can find the posts again. Did it say what causes it?

Why are you giving your lizard shots?

jeune18 Mar 29, 2006 01:56 PM

i originally gave her shots of an antibiotic because she was acting weird and i thought she might be getting a respiratory infection. then the weird spots showed up and i switched to oral antibiotics at the second vet, then at the third vet i switched to a different oral antibiotic.

my situation was odd because there is nothing wrong with her cage set up to cause the blisters to show up in the first place and she got the blisters while already on an antibiotic.

the more she peels, the more the blisters go away and there are scars. hopefully they won't return to being blisters and hopefully no others will show up on her body and this will just be over with.

anyway, here is a link to part of the thread when houston first got sick

I had to make many changes for Houston. We started from scratch because everything we were doing was via information from the pet store that we purchased him from. The lighting was wrong, the litter was wrong...who knows what else was wrong. Oh, we were spraying vitamins on his belly.

Now, son gives him some vitamins in a tube once in awhile, he only has paper towels in his cage. We don't give him water on his rock, we actually have a shallow dish with only enough water in it to cover the bottom. He eats crickets and an occasionaly pinkie. It's working so we will stick with it. He's still skinny but as I've said before, he was never a fat lizard.
