Steve just finished shedding saturday night after having mites for a couple of weeks (and being off-feed for roughly a month). I tried putting a mouse in the cage sunday night. Nothing. Monday night he sniffed it out all night long, but never struck at it. Then this morning I took the mouse out, and once I did that, he suddenly struck from underneath his hidespot right where the mouse used to be and tried to constrict. Poor little guy...bad timing
So I defrosted a new mouse for him, and this time I let it sit under his heat lamp for a while. I had just set it in and turned my back to get the top for his tank, and I heard him strike and wrap. He took that mouse with gusto!
So tonight after I got home from work (long day...school all day, then work. I hate those days), I checked on him and noticed that he was back in position in his hidebox. His neck was in the S position, and his nose right at the entrance. So I got him another mouse and did the same thing I did this morning, with the same results!
So now the little guy has a full tummy until next week when I will feed another two small mice. In the middle of the week I'm going to clean out his tank and soak him at least once though, just to be on the safe side with the mites. He's doing great though.
All my reptiles seem to be doing well. My bearded dragon is acting normal, Leopard gecko too, my Mali Uromastyx is recovering from an injury she sustained on her face (trying to burrow into a rock constantly), my Russian Tortoise is eating and acting somewhat normal again, and Steve is eating again. Good times for the reptiles.
