How many watts do I need?

Amoryte Mar 28, 2006 08:16 PM

I recently aquired a beautiful ball python (my first snake ever!). I plan to set it up in a 20 gallon long aquarium. I want to use a ceramic heat bulb to maintain the ambient temperature (80-85 degrees farenheit) and a UV bulb for the basking spot (90-95 degrees farenheit). Does anyone know how many watts each of these heating elements should be? I plan on using the metal reflector thingies and just sitting them on top of my cage. Thanks in advance for the help!

I have both a corn snake and ball python. My corn snake is in a 10 gallon and I use a 60watt to heat. I would recommend a 75 watt but probably would not go much higher. I would definetly suggest putting a thermometer in your cage. I would put one at the hot end and one at the cold end. I would also suggest an under the tank heater as your primary heating source.
