Sometimes you have to arch their back just alittle to see everything inside the tummy. I have one girl that I have to guess with as she is a porker and her eggs hide from my view. I have to arch her back and allow her to wiggle before I get a glimps to tell if she is ovulating or even has eggs. Each one is a little different.

i dont think you gecko shows much because there really isnt much to show, though you can still see a little.
when the eggs begin to form you can begin to see a change, i guess because the eggs are pressing against the belly.

also lighting is very important, when looking under their belly's make sure u have lots of light luminating the belly, it makes everything much more visible.

my gecko looked just as thick (fat) as yours when she wasnt gravid. until recently i began to notice a change, and today someone here confirmed that indeed she is gravid!
so dont worry too much when the eggs begin to form you will notice it
