melamine cages

skeletor121 Mar 29, 2006 01:29 PM

I have a 1 year old ball python who is starting to out grow his cage. I have found a used melamine cage that is 4'L x 2'H x 2'D for pretty cheap. Do you think this size cage will be a good size for him? How long do you think he would be able to stay in there before he out grows it? How good are melamine cages? I have a wood one right now and looking for a good substitute. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

4x2x2 will be more than enough for even the largest female ball python. Some would argue it's too much. Personally, I think it's a good size.

Melamine cages are fine as long as the surface has not been compromised to the point that water has seeped into the particle board core. That is easy to spot. Look for chipped and swollen areas.

Even if it is slightly abused you can make it usable by laminating some sort of plastic on to the inside or possibly even painting it with epoxy or melamine paint.

I figured it would be big enough. Thanks for the info on what to look for.
