Okay, first off, let me say that I have read several books and sites about ball pythons. I understand that they sometimes go off food, even at an early age, as part of the breeding cycle.
Now, having said that, my two females have been on a fast since the middle of October. I'm starting to get a bit worried. Both females have still got great body mass and proportions, and they've both got good mobility and muscle tone as well. They're still drinking water, they just won't eat. One of the females ate a small rat about five weeks ago, but that's been her only meal since around October 20th.
Now, to start with, I wasn't concerned, I kind of figured this might happen since both females were around 1100 grams as of october. But I cooled the snake room down, adjusted the photo period accordingly, and kept it that way until the weather outside started changing.... For the past seven weeks now, I've slowly increased the temp and photoperiod until they're back to normal. And still no appetites.
So, I was wondering if I should be concerned yet, or if it's still a little early to go panicking and all. Also, anyone know some tricks I could try other than the scenting rats with a gerbil thing?
Thanks.
Dave
