I noticed this evening that while handling one of my females that she was "drooling". She had a fair amount of slobber running out of her mouth. I took her to the vet on 3/1/06 because of the same symptom and because I could hear her "popping" when she breathed. He looked her over and said it "might" be early signs of URI but said that there was a minimal amount of fluid in the back of her mouth but that she wasn't showing typical signs of URI. We put her on antibiotics anyway(4 injections) and bumped her temps and humidity. All seemed well for the past couple of weeks...until tonight. I noticed that she had her head proped up in the corner of her tub and we took her out. That's when we noticed fluid dripping from her mouth. There's a chance she's gravid (my first); I don't know if that makes a difference. I'm not sure what's up and would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions from you seasoned herpers. She still feeds like crazy and by all other appearances in very normal. I just checked and noticed that her water level is way down from this morning, so maybe she just guzzeled a bunch of water. Thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Tim Beason

If she's not any better within 24 hours, go back to the vet

Tim, I does sound like she had taken a large drink of water, But still keep an eye on her for a while. If it is all poss. Take out the water bowl and put it in there for only a little while every other day until this is cleared up that way you can monitor her intake of water and it would be easier to rule that out. If it is an URI keep a close eye on her for gaping of the mouth, weezing, And dried mucus around the nose, If you see any signs of this then I would get her back to the vet. Good Luck. Erick

Thanks, Erick. The liquid that came out was very thin and totally clear, that's why I was thinking (hoping) it was just water. She has none of the other symptoms you described, however I will keep a close eye on her. Being a "snake parent" is just as maddening as being a "kid parent!"

Thanks,

Tim

I had this happen to me once, and I am by no means an expert!
I've only been keeping BPs for 1 year now.
I picked up one on my girls, her head was pointing down, and she "drooled" a puddle onto my foot. I was concerned, but it hasn't happened again. I figured she had just taken a big drink, and like being handled at that time.
Anyway, keep an eye on her! Hope it's nothing serious!
