good news

I came home from work today and she was sitting on a clutch. I removed twelve duds, I don't think I got them all. I think there are 6-12 good ones. She got really pissy so I'm just going to leave her alone. Thanks for everybody's input yesterday..John

Looks like at least twenty good ones and 14 duds so far. she's still kicking out an occasional dud from the clutch.

Congrats. Now hopefully you got some eggs to look forward to hatching, and she did her thing to put your mind at ease.

nine good looking eggs and 27 little duds. I got cold feet today about letting her incubate so I took them away. Any idea why so many duds? She is about 11 feet and two years old. The male is a granite and about the same size possibly a year older then her.Am I correct to assume that the nine full size eggs are fertile? Thanks for the info

Sounds like perhaps she wasn't cooled long enough, or low enough or a combination of both. I personally take my burms down to 80 degree lows and 84-85 highs for a minimum of 8 weeks before bringing them up for breeding.

To find out if your 9 big eggs are fertile turn off all the kights and place a flashlight against the top of the egg right up against the "skin". This is called "candling". If they are fertile they will have many red veins running through them that are very visible.

can have the same effect, due to non-fertilization of the ova.
