Wow! That really is red. Sweet. How big? Old? Where from?

I get really tired of people trying to make something out of nothing, such as the people asking if they have a red hog when it just looks light brown. Do me a favor and post this picture every time you see a post like that and ask "Is your hog THIS red?" haha

... nature has ceased to be what it always had been - what people needed protection from. Now nature - tamed, endangered, mortal - needs to be protected from people. When we are afraid, we shoot. But when we are nostalgic, we take pictures.

Gorgeous! Who is your source!
She was produced by my good friend Don Shores, he lives just up the road from me. This year I am breeding my male below to the mother of that female, she is het for albino so hopefully will get some extraordinary red albino's in addition to some reds.

parting with the rest of my hognose. Until I saw that pic. That's a very nice hog and just the type of motivation I needed to convince me to keep what's left of my group. I ran into some serious space issues last year. Hated to do it but I cut the group in half. Then I gave 1.1 to a friend so he could breed them this year. That left me with 1.3 The male has been a reluctant feeder since coming out of cooling so I've been having some doubts about him handling 3 females this season. I was already starting to think that if he doesn't get it done, I might as well sell off the females.
The last few years have been a real learning experience for me in regards to the care and breeding of hogs.I have been breeding reptiles for almost 12 years now but really only started dabbling with hogs the last few. What I learned has really helped me in my overall approach with reptiles .Lesson learned .."just because there a snake don't take for granted that you know there behavior". Males and females fast at certain times of the year, most people seem to get stressed about this ( myself included ) and fail to realize that this is normal and to be expected. For example males going off feed after brumation. Man what a pain, any other species and it's a sign of illness etc. With this species it is the norm. So don't be discouraged by this or by any other of there peculiarities. Especially feeding babies, seems patients is the biggest key to hogs in most aspects.
I agree........
Dang Justin lol,
You gave Don props for the het but no props for the producer of that awesome albino male

Sorry Ron no one asked..
But don't feel bad, I have only mentioned your name to about half of the herp world as well as sent countless people to your site to check out pics etc.. Sure would be nice to get ahold of his mother and do a line breeding to see if that banding thing is genetic and get some more awesome red's.If you have any idea's how this could be done email me at Asnakemann@aol.com.
