Sexing question (not the usual)

Stefan-A Mar 30, 2006 04:14 AM

So the most common methods are popping, probing and judging the length and shape of the tail. Let's skip all that this time, there's plenty of information available on those methods.

I just read that mature male T. sirtalis could be recognized by "knobbed keels on dorsal scales near vent". Is there any validity to it and what is the right way to make sure? You just feel or look if there are knobs near the vent, or what exactly?

I have noticed the scales around the cloaca on my plains garters have bigger keels...however I don't use this method for sexing. You have to look close to see it.
