Eggs!

frye Mar 30, 2006 07:59 AM

I came home yesterday to find two eggs on top of the sand of my occellated uros tank. I don't think they are viable but went through the exercise of setting up hovabator anyway. These eggs were primarily an orange color with some white. Is this normal or what does it indicate?

Unfortunately, they sound like duds. Healthy eggs are a good white with a readily discernible red ring on the side. One of our female ornates, at 2 years of age, laid yellow duds. At 3 years, a healthy clutch. Our ocellated's first clutch were duds. The next year, they were good, though they were buried in the substrate just a bit too long to save them. Could viable eggs be a product of the mother's age as well as dietary factors, etc? Maybe other folks can shed some light here.
