as they say, keeping Timors is like keeping an empty cage. once they burrow or dig, they are gone for good. there is more visual enjoyment in Ackies, more physical enjoyment, they are a better monitor experience. in fact, i would say the overall best monitor experience.

I wouldn't go so far as to say having a Timor Monitor is like having an empty cage, my Timor is a extraordinarily beautiful creature who provides a lot of entertainment, watching him climb up to the top then hang upside down before dropping (its a relatively short drop, 2 maybe 2 1/2 feet so it in no way harms him), watching him wolf down pinky mice and case down crickets.
That being said, he is VERY timid, and I had him for 6 monthes before he calmed down enough to not bolt the second I walked in the room or moved a finger. I've given up on any hope of taming him enough to handle, and that seems to be the general case for timors at the moment.
I've never kept ackies, but they are far less timid, and are still very beautiful creatures that would also be entertaining to watch, and I would definitely say go for the Ackies, especially if you are looking for a varanid you can handle.
if you offer a soil setup, the Timors become digging machines, and that is when they will completely disappear, underground
