Hey -
My son and I will be in Florida over spring break and would love to take pictures of some snakes in the wild. We plan on visiting the Jungle Adventure and Everglade Alligator Farm. Has anyone been to these and are they any good? Also does anyone know where we might be able to spot some native snakes along the way from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale? Thanks.
Dario

These days, I really don't know where to see them in the wild (haven't had the time).

I've never been to Jungle Adventure, but I have been to the Alligator Farm. It's OK for snakes I guess, but don't miss the airboat ride, it's well worth the few bucks. If you really want to see snakes (in captivity) stop by the Everglades Outpost where I volunteer while you're down there. It's a few miles north on the same road, you'll pass by it on the way to the Farm. We have everything from king snakes to King Cobras...and a few minor things like wolves, tigers, bears etc. Do you know the date you'll be in that area? If it's a saturday, I'll be there to show you around.

There is a decent serpentarium real close to Orlando ins Kissimee. It is called Reptile World Serpentarium, and if you get there at the right time, you can watch them milk venemous snakes. Derek

Hello,
Its been many years since ive been there, but i can tell you a little about the everglades. When i went i was on a river boat, or air boat is that i think they call them. We went out on the everglades and saw many aligators. I cant remember but i think there were a few snake farms. I actually used to live in florida and we used to always see long black snakes in the woods. I cant tell you what they were, but i can tell you for sure that if you look you will find some snakes in the woods. Happy hunting! I love florida, and i wish i could go back.

South Florida is far from the snakey place it used to be back in the sixties and seventies. The only real options for snake observing in the wild are the sugar cane groves or the Everglades. Both are best ventured to in the early morning.

One good spot is off US 27 just below the Palm Beach line. If you turn west right where the power lines cross the roads go 20 miles in and you can run into anything from Greens, gaters, Mocks, water snakes and the occasional rat snake or racer. Rarerly there are Indigo there (DON'T TOUCH). This is Indian land so if you get caught collecting your S.O.L. However, you will see snakes there.
