mealworm beetles?

lmay777 Mar 31, 2006 03:01 AM

Hi I'm new here, I have a 10 month old male panther chameleon. I was trying to breed mealworms and superworms and i have them in open bins in room. I keep my chameleon in the same room and let him out at night sometimes to sleep in a big ficus tree. I think he ate some of the beetles- is this ok? Or is the beetle'e shell to hard for him to digest? So far he's ok but its not like I feed them regularly to him. But I do have an excess of mealworm beetles... does anyone know if its safe for my cham to have some?

The beetles make a nice crunchy snake from time to time. There is more shell than meat so on occasion. My cham loves them. Good luck Matt

as Matt said, they are fine from time to time. The superworm beetles give off a defensive chemical (harmless, but stinky) so your cham may or may not eat them - depends if they release before he gets it to his face

If you are interested here is a great superworm breeding site
