Thanks for music ? input!

Thank-you for your input about my music dilemma. My turtles don't seem to stress out when I handle or move them, maybe that is because I have had all but one since they were hatchlings and they are used to me picking them up. Now if other people pick them up they try to get away. Maybe that is because they are used to my voice (I talk to them all the time) and the way I hold them. Anyway......I figure they will stay out in the pen even during band practice.

As for telling them to hold it down or move into the garage.....well, they have one but they can't get into it. and the holding it down part......I don't believe that is possible. There is an apartment building on the other side of their house so I think that is part of why it sounds so loud over here at my house. It probably is deflected to our side. If we are inside we don't hear it much, it is just when we are outside.

Anyway.....I guess the turtles will be fine. The last of the crew was up on top of their substrate yesterday so they are now outdoors as well. Yay! Now I can move their big wooden cages back outside and re-claim my garage. I might just try and let them hibernate outside next winter. More than likely I will move them back into the garage at that time though. I don't know.....maybe I am too protective of them.

They all seem to like their new pen. Of course it is in the same spot that they would come back to after walking around the yard the past years to bury down during the hot part of the day, so it is really nothing new to them, except they are penned in now and can't walk the yard. Oops.....guess I got long-winded again. Sorry! You all have a good day!..oh, and a good week-end! Man the time is flying by so quickly this year it seems. I wish there was some way to kind of slow it down. Y'all have a good one! .....9boxies

If the dividing fence is tall enough, you could consider attaching some sort of material to your side of it to help cut down on the noise, too.
Good luck with it.

I think turtles & tortoises tend to sort of take things in stride. I don't think that many things bother them if they're in a place where they feel safe.
As you know dove season in TX begins every Sept. 1, we live less than a mile from the city limit line so to the west of us is private property that is outside the city limits. Every Sept. 1, the shooting starts because it's legal to hunt over there & we can definitely hear it.
The first year we had the sulcata by Sept. 1, it'd only been 6-7 weeks since someone had shot her so when the shooting started she would stop & look nervous every time she heard a shotgun blast.
We'd pet her & tell her it's ok.
The next year, she didn't seem to even notice it, didn't pause, didn't do anything but continue grazing. I think sounds don't bother them if they have a chance to get used to it.
Every Sept. we get a big crowd of dove moving into our area, they're not stupid they get out of the way of those hunters. lol

btw I'm sorry for you that you have to put up with that screeching noise from those kids. Hopefully they'll give it up soon.
