Best season?

ReptilesRampant Mar 31, 2006 01:12 PM

What is the best month/season for buying baby cornsnakes? Adults? I was just wondering which Raleigh show to go to; May or September. Of course I may just have to go to both. Do any of you who have been to both have preferences? Thanks.

Baby snakes typically hatch in July, so that's when the widest selection will be available. People don't generally sell adults before the breeding season - it makes more financial sense to breed the snakes and then collect money from the adults and offspring.

So with those things in mind, it would make more sense to attend the September show. If you are just looking for a single snake as a pet, I'd imagine that some breeders would have last year's babies for sale in May - although there may be slim pickings, you could get a well-started snake for a decent price.

But then again, you could also be getting a hold back snake that has been if-y with the eating, if you get them before this years babies hatch.

I think I will probably only be able to go to the September one anyway. I am just so impatient, I don't think I can wait 154 more days! (Yes, I am counting down the days on my calendar; sad, isn't it?) Anyway, thanks for all your opinions.
