NO WEEK IN REVIEW THIS WEEK .....

APRIL FOOLS .... LOL - Just wanted to be the first!

Boy this was a long week ….

Breeding small males – the up side: you wont have to wait until next year to get those awesome new combos! The down side: (1) you might be wasting your female and end up with a bunch of slugs (2) your small male – could go feed and literally breed himself to death. Any questions?

Lotsa granite questions this week – sheesh you’d think were a real morph or something.

Hello, Wisconsin? – Hi we’ve found a couple of your herpers – they were running rampant down our street but stopped to check out the african rats in our store window, who you like to come get them or should we turn them loose so they can find their own way home?

Opinions Please !!!! But there were some awesome frog pictures that came out of it

Sexing questions – lots of them over the past couple of weeks – the only sure fire way to tell the sex of the snake is to see hemipenes, put if you don’t see them does not necessarily rule out the possibility that they are there. BTW – does anyone know if you can ultrasound a snake to see if it has penes? Just thinking this would be a less evasive/stressful and more accurate way of sexing (at least for adults) if it could be done.

Tom Baker – checked in with an update on Crystal and siblings lotsa nice photos and we are glad to hear Mom and Dad are getting it done again this year – hope there are two Crystals this year!!! BTW- Tom, I know you want to keep her under wraps for know but I think you should post like a tail shot or something of Mom. LOL ! forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1041925,1041925

Music Ads – Yeah get used to them they will be ever present for now on – alternative music for your alternative pet? I know don’t know I think with more people pushing to mainstream reptiles – alternative may not be the way to go. I think we should pony up and hire Brittany Spears to carry a snake around instead of a Chihuahua. LMAO …

Sables – Hypermelanistic or IMG – And what exactly is IMG a simple increase in the amount of melanin that the animal is born with or an increase in the amount it produces over a lifetime. Maybe we should rename the typical IMG ball the Presto Chango Ball – Just so we are all clear on what we are talking about.

Water – tap, drinking, avian, arrowhead???

Jarskie/ wftright the new Bianco/ginebig?

Market Talks (blah blah blah blah blah) Just wondering if NERD, TSK, VPI, BHB, Graziani, PK etc. sit around debating the eventual collapse of the free market?

Can you pick a morph out of a box of normals?

The Angry Market Activist
by Christopher Bianco (and company)

Act I
(The Angry Market Activist enters the room.)
Angry Market Activist: I am so angry! Joe Schmoe is selling Cinnamon Pastels below market value again! Joe Schmoe is crashing the market!!!

Act II
(The Angry Market Activist dials the phone.)
Angry Market Activist: Hello? Is this Plain Jane? I'm calling about the Orange Ghost you advertised on Kingsnake for $2500. Will you take $1250?

Act III
OK. I'll take $1250, just don't tell anyone.

Act IV
Post on Kingsnake:
What do you think of my $1200 Hypo!

Act V
For Sale 15.36 Het Hypos Males $500 Females $2000

Act VI
For Sale Proven Breeder Hypo Male – only bred a few females lots of breeding left in him - $6000

Speaking of Angry Activists – This thread regarding Children and Snakes and the Department of Social Services really brought out this group of herpers. SCARY SUBJECT CHILDREN SNAKES = DSS

Some things for you to consider if you have children and snakes – or just as a snake owner. The general population is ignorant on the facts of snake, most are afraid or at least weary of snakes and snake owners – there is a certain stigma attached to owning snakes – snake owners are scary drug addict, alternative punk rock listening people (etc). And it may not seem right or fair – but the fact remains that the people in your children’s lives – their doctor, teachers, neighbors, friends parents, church members, etc. will at some time express their concern over the safety of the children around your snakes. The one most invaluable response is to be prepared and have knowledge on your side. Be prepared to discuss how your animals are properly kept and cared for, be prepared to tell these people that your children have been properly introduced to these animals and know the appropriate way to handle them and only under your supervision, be prepared with answers to questions about bites, diseases, etc. and know your county and state codes AHEAD OF TIME. Address any concerns and nip them in the bud as soon as possible – so it doesn’t get to the point where the DSS is involved. Nine times out of ten a simple acknowledgement of the dangers and your steps to prevent them is enough to quell concerns.

Possible New Morph – I’m thinking they look like Striped Harlequins – but whatever ya’ll decide to call them Best of Luck!!!

Mr. Smith of Africa comes out of hibernation to exploit the new batch of BP breeding hopefuls!

Another herpers dreams crushed by non –herper sig. other. OK let me just say – if you want advice on breeding your snakes – this is a great crowed to ask – if you want relationship advice – well – really it’s kind of like asking your mechanic for advice on gardening.

Quote of the week:

I think that the way that the ball python market is dropping, pretty soon they'll be putting both normals and pastels as prizes in boxes of cereal. I'll turn the box up, and a python will fall into my bowl. I'll wipe the milk off of him and say,

"Hey Jeremy, I got a lemon this time, but I got one of those last week. I'll trade you for that blonde you got yesterday."

You'll say, "Sure Bill, as long as you let me have your box top. If I send in four box tops, I can get an albino."

"Yeah, but I want that pied that the bank gave you for opening a new account last month."

"I'd be glad to let you have him, Bill. You can try to find those African soft-furred rats to feed him."

The weird striped looking balls are striped harlequins. Amir looked at mine at the 2005 Daytona Breeders Expo and said that it was a Striped Harlequin. Thanks David

Jarskie/ wftright the new Bianco/ginebig?

Okay, should I be worried about this comparison? Does it involve a grassy knoll? What did ginebig and Bianco get themselves into?

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.
