herp-keeper Mar 31, 2006 04:01 PM

hi,
ive had leos for years and years now.
almost a decade.
i started breeding them now.
the first egg hatched about 2 days ago. the egg was laid before i had my incubator so it had alot of temperature fluctuation.
so the baby is a little wierd.
everything is fine except the eyes seem to be glued closed or something.
theres a black film on them that almsot never opens.
can anyone help me please?

I am totally unqualified to give any advice, but I can image how panicked you must feel right now. It doesn't sound good for the little guy, but probably the best you can do is keep it warm and comfy and just hope it improves. I know with any creature there are occasional birth defects, and perhaps this is just an unlucky hatchling.
I doubt that even a vet would have any luck saving it at this age if the problem is serious, and if it isn't then all you can do is wait and see.

Good luck with it, I hope it pulls through.

Sounds like an eyelid deformity. Sometime these babys do fine with extra care if they can see somewhat and the have extra tlc. There is a chance that the eyes could get too dry, and need ointment. If that dosn't work they can dry out.
You also have to think of quality of life, If it is blind and uncomfortable maybe it should be put down.
I have had babies with a dark spot on the belly, but it is hard to say if yours is normal or not with out a pic. Some times with one deformity there are other not visable ones.
