Live pinkies

crazynips Mar 31, 2006 05:37 PM

This is my first western hognose. I have been feeding my western hognose frozen pinkies on a weekly basis since july 2005. I recently tried feeding it live pinkies. The only thing she does is either stare at it or nuzzle it. I've gone through 2 live pinkies so far and still no luck. I didn't feed her for two weeks and noticed her decrease in size. Thats when i brought in the 2nd live pinky. How can I get her to eat live pinkies, or am I stuck with feeding her frozen ones?

Can someone please give me some advise.

Stick with frozen. Being frozen for more than 30 days greatly reduces any chance of parasites. When your hoggie gets bigger, you are not going to want to feed it something that will bite back and cause injury. My humble opinion, frozen is best.

Just curious, but why do you want her to eat live? Like the other poster said, Id stick with f/t. Also, if you noticed a significant weight loss in only 2 weeks, Id be a little concerned about parasites.

"The irrational fear of snakes is the only excuse a grown man has... to act like a complete sissy" - Colchicine

... nature has ceased to be what it always had been - what people needed protection from. Now nature - tamed, endangered, mortal - needs to be protected from people. When we are afraid, we shoot. But when we are nostalgic, we take pictures.

Visual Morphs?....I love the normal looks. You can't improve on nature, you can only produce "interesting deviations".
