CALIFORNIA AB 2862 - NEW UPDATE

Amazonreptile Mar 31, 2006 06:57 PM

We are planning a polite little meet and greet with Assemblymember Gloria Negrete-McLeod's staff at her Montclair Office. We plan to meet near her office at 1PM Monday April 3rd, 2006 and then walk to her location. The idea is to introduce ourselves as constituents of her district and to express our desire for changes to California AB 2862.

This is the bill that will make it nearly impossible for California reptile stores to do normal business. It bans the sale of pink mice for feeders. Further it will require a huge number of enclosures for the feeder rodents. www.pijac.org/files/public/CA_AB2862_2.pdf To see the current text of the revised bill.

Our sincere intent is to be respectful of Mrs. Negrete-McLeod's staff. We simply want her to know of our existence in her district and our concerns for the feasibility of this bill. If you would like to attend this meeting please contact Scott Solar at 909-447-5103 immediately.

A hearing is to be held Tuesday April 4th, 2006 in from of the Calirofnia State Assembly Committee on Business and Professions. Please make sure to voice your opinions to these comittee members.

MORE: PIJAC has issued a "PetAlert" for this bill. Please take the time to read it in it's entirety. Click here to view it.

We have started a legislative action alert email list. Go here to join. This website also has a form for you to enter your zip code. Submit your zip code and you will see your California Assembly Member's and their addresses. Read the materials and send them a letter telling them your thoughts. This is for California residents ONLY. Non-Californians can help by telling their California family, friends and colleagues to take action to kill this bill. California is often a "model" for laws in other states. We seem to be leaders? We need to stop this one in it's tracks. Wrtie your CA State Assemblymember. Write the commmittee members listed on page three of the PetAlert.

Thanks for taking the time to help. It effects all of us.

Great news! The Assembly meeting planned for April 4th has been postponed. The word on the street is we are having an effect! Time will also allow the opposition to gather support also. Do not stop gathering support. We need it.

I just want to post that I have received more than 500 Signed letters/petitions from customers, other retailers and distributors throughout southern California. Many more are already on the way. They are being faxed daily to the assembly members. It may be a bother to them, but guess what...this bill is a bother to US! Our goal is 5,000 by the 18th. Keep em comin! Thank you for all of your support!
