ok so i am rambling

jeune18 Mar 31, 2006 08:28 PM

i am so sick of writing to you all not to mention today has been the longest day of my life. i had to wake up at 6:30 AM so i could leave by 7:30 to make it to the vet, for anyone who knows me, my normal bedtime is like 2-3 AM so i think i made it into bed around 1:30-ish. after i got back i had to go to my aunt's surprise birthday party

the vet was a really cool guy, introduced himself by his first name. we talked about all the vets and her set up and he told me it was fine that i gave panacur to my lizards without a fecal since i knew how, so pooh on the vet who lectured me.

THINGS I LEARNED

i still don't know exactly the cause of the blisters. he said injecting that baytril could highly be the cause because baytril is on the base end of the PH spectrum and it has been noted to cause ruptures in other animals. the only way to know for sure is to do a skin biopsy, so if you all are really interested you are more than welcome to make deposits into my bank account and i will have the procedure done

so we went with the method he has used to treat other cases like this. unfortunately i have to inject fortaz (antibiotic) every three days for the next 30 days but i also have silvadine. he said since she shed once, she is already in the healing process. ***thing i really learned, when lizards have skin problems, in order to heal, they actually have to push it out of their skin, so supposedly she will be shedding alot over the next couple weeks*** perhaps you all knew that i didn't.

i also found out that you can spay your females, it's quite pricy but he has done it numerous times on egg bound lizards. i was completely floored by that. he even brought in a slide show he uses at talks and showed me the picture of the lizard, the eggs and her ovaries, they were so tiny!

he also gave me this HUGE thesis sized paper he wrote about common lizard pets and their common ailments, i guess as a guide to other vets.

ok i am rambling some more but also, i went to eastern exotics last week. when it was recommended to me, the guy couldn't remember the vets name. well, eastern recommended dr stahl to me but it turns out dr stahl was the one who started the exotics wing of the penderton or whatever animal hospital. such a small world.

overall, she isn't dying, she is getting better, he told me how great an achievment it was to hatch eggs and i was a good lizard mom and i have had way too much coffee today
