The term "Pastel" does not mean colorful. Their are lots of Pastel Boas that are not very colorful at all. And their are many Boas that are loaded with pinks and oranges, but are not Pastels. Pastels are simply Boas that are lacking much of the black in the saddles and side medallions and down the sides of the tail as well.
A Pastel Anery is an Anery with less black than normal, and tends to make their pattern look very crisp and clean (as with any Pastel). Their are proven Pastel lines, but Pastels will also pop up randomly in litters also. Their are also people calling their Boas Pastels that I would disagree with. I think it would be good for people to post pics that they would consider the lowest form of Pastel so that maybe we could possibly determine a dividing point from nice non-pastels.
Here are two that I would call Pastels, though they are not from Pastel lines -

This girl does have sections of black, but her saddles and side pattern are reduced. She's more borderline to me -

This Anery wasn't sold to me as a Pastel, but again is a borderline Pastel to me. Not the best pic, but her saddles (mostly front half of her body) lack black, and her sides are pretty washed out. I have to get a better pic of her outside this spring. I'd like to have others let me know if they would consider her a Pastel Anery or not. I won't mind either way. -

Their has been much good stuff posted on the Pastel topic in the past. I hope been close to factual. I'd look in the archives for more stuff. Also www.theboaphile.com is a good spot for Pastel Anery's. Take care, David

I would definetely classify that anery as a pastel anery mainly because the side diamonds are very washed out. Good looking trio.

Dave, don't feel bad, we have been raising boas for 7 years, breeding for 2 years, have read every book we could find, and just when you think you have it figured out POW a new curveball!! Then you add triple hets in the mix, and really lose some hair. LOL There really isn't any figuring these guys out, my friend bred two normal appearing animals, and got a litter of jungle appearing babies. Best of luck to you.

We believe pastel anery to be very real. Our 65 Litter last year had 5 of them, one being almost white at birth (Great White Hope). Amazingly the entire litter was female!!

Thanks Randy! We don't have GOOD current pix. We seem to be having a problem getting her true color on photos, don't know if it's background, or flash, or etc......... Any suggestions? There are current pix in the gallery, but they are way, way, off, but her tail is still smokin'!

My best experience on indoor shots for my lighter animals is to use 40 watt GE reveal bulbs with lighter backgrounds. I'm far from one of the good pic takers on the forum, hopefully one of the more experienced posters will give some suggestions.

That's amazing. The odds are HUGE!!! (1 in 36,893,488,147,419,103,232)

You have a better chance of winning the lottery TWICE!

porsche Apr 05, 2006 11:44 AM

Jeez Louise!!! If the odds are like that, why have we not won the lottery at least once?????????????
