few heating Questions on a rack

eatinmachine Apr 01, 2006 10:59 AM

I just built a rack for hatchlings out of melamine. I am going to heat from the back with rope light. I am debating how though. I am thinking since I left about 4 inches behind the shelves to put peg board connected to boards on the inside and connect the rope light through the holes using zip ties. This sounds easy but then came problems what about the reflectix? should I poke holes to connect the zip ties through that? I hope this makes sense. my last problem is how do I prevent the light from hitting the animals? I was thinking aluminum but that seems like it would stop almost all the heat from hitting the animals. Then I thought something dark color to absorb the light. I thought construction paper then said no that might be a fire hazard. What do you think? I know you made one chris how did you deal with it?

P.s don't worry about how the peg boards are connected to teh sides it is hard to explain, and I will put the rope light on a dimmer.
