i know this is gonna sound silly but it looks alot like the garter snakes we have here in VA. is it small??

raisnok Apr 01, 2006 01:45 PM

id say hes about 12 to 13 inches long

STEVES_KIKI Apr 01, 2006 01:58 PM

i was gonna say it looks pretty young if it still has all those black stripes. if you want to keep it...the ones around here eat crickets and anole lizards...also blue tailed skinks...but you cant really buy those...

The first picture made me think brown snake but the second picture makes me posative that it is a form of garter or ribbon snake. Try putting a goldfish in its waterbowl.

ya, I was thinking he should offer fish as well.
Although a diest of soley fish is not the greatest. The fish oils drain a vitamin from their body.

Although garters vary to some degree, they have the general look about them. Ribbon snakes look very similar, but are generally more slender.

i didnt keep it i was just wondering what kind of snake it was, so i took photos before i set him free, i let him loose near my house.

goregrind Apr 03, 2006 04:37 AM

good, wild caught snakes are really hard to acclimate to captivity and could transfer parasites and stuff to your collection and would probably end up starving anyway
