leucistics...more

HerpGirl Jul 29, 2003 08:36 AM

i have yet to get leos, altho i am looking to breed these guys also sumtime... i was paging thru all of my old reptiles mags lastnight and in the reptiles usa mag of last year there was a small article on begginer herps that featured leos, tho i read it several times i decided to re-re-read it(theres prolly more "re"s that should go there but i dont feel like typing it all.)anyway, looking at the picture they had different morphs and one was leucistic...i dunno if i spelled it right cuz i usually dont.... that was very pretty. do a lot of ppl sell these on a normal basis? what is the normal cost? oh and, how hard is it to produce strains of this? i am not very familiar with leopard gecko morphs and producing them(morphs)so excuse me if i have pretty basic questions.
thanks

they are fairly common (normally referred to as 'patternless') and you can find hatchlings for 35-40 bucks. they are very easy to breed, as are most of the leo morphs out there today. good luck

Hi!
Fortunately, Leucistics (more accurately referred to as patternless) are a common leo morph. There is no "true" leucistic leo (yet!). They are readily available and babies are commonly priced between $25-$35. All leos are quite easily breedable, including patts. The only problem I have personally found with them is that they seem to be slightly more susceptible to parasitic and bacterial infestations. This is just from my personal experience though. It could just be coincidence, but I have purchased baby patts from admittedly irreputable sources only to have them succumb to illnesses a few days after purchase. I would just be careful where you buy him/her (or them ) from. I think patternless leos are simply stunning, they're right up there on my list of favorites. Good luck acquiring your new gecko!!! Below is a pic of Sylvia and Sebastian, my new babies .
