LOUISIANA LEGISLATIVE ALERT

wildtropics Apr 01, 2006 11:21 PM

Warren J. Triche of Thibodaux, LA has introduced HB783 which changes state law from "Constrictors over 12 feet" to just "Constrictors". This means that owners of ball pythons, Mexican milks & kings and any other non-indigenous constrictor would need a permit. Please contact Representative Triche and ask him to pull HB783. Contact Wilfred Pierre, Chairman of the House Natural Resource Committee and Jack D. Smith, Vice Chair and ask them to kill HB783 in their committee. Ask as many people as you can to make contacts; the more contacts, the more effective the message will be. House switchboard: 225-342-6945. Email: webreps@legis.state.la.us (put the Representative's name in the subject line)

Rep. Warren Triche was completely unreasonable about withdrawing his bill. Pinckney Wood, an animal activist, asked Triche to file HB183. It was accepted by the House Resource Committee, a rubber stamp procedure for enforcement. We are calling our Legislators asking them to OPPOSE the bill. Any body that wants to help can call the House switchboard at 225-342-6945 and tell them that you are opposed to HB783. Tell them that a law needs to be made that outlaws snakes being shot by rifle & scope. Triche had made the comment that he had never been harmed by a snake because he kept them in the scope of his rifle. ~Bill~
