Scale Dimpling

Tormato Jul 29, 2003 09:11 AM

I've kept my Blood Python under pretty good husbandry conditions since I bought her. But lately, when I look at her scales the right way in the light, I can see some dimpling. Its ticking me off because her humidity is always on the 78% side. Is this normal for young Bloods? Im open to any answers.
Thanks
john

everything ive read from people i would trust when it comes to bloods and short tails points to either too little, or more likely, too much humidity. this comes from multiple sources, and from my expierience it holds true, when ive kept my blood above 70 - 75% humidity for more than a week or so shes developed dimples, so i now keep my humidity at 50 to 60% and keep a box full of moist moss, this way she can get quite a bit drier if she chooses, and right now shes spent 5 days out of her moss hide, which isnt unusual for her at this time of year in southeastern ny. tho, ive gotta admit, shes spending less time getting humid than almost any of my other snakes. id say lower the humidity, add a moist moss box, and wait till she sheds, thats when dimpling usually clears up once the problem is corrected. good luck!
