Creating a Turtle Dock

MissMiniZoo Apr 02, 2006 01:16 AM

Hi,
I am wanting to create a large land area for my sliders similar to the Zoo Med Turtle Dock. (I have a large Turtle Dock, but would like a larger land area without losing swimming area.) I read that it is made out of foamed urethane. Has anyone tried to make anything from this material? Where can it be purchased?

I believe the best way to create a land area that doesnt use up swimming space is to create it out of the water. I prefer the basking spot to sit on the top lip of the aquarium.

While this image is not the most aesthetically pleasing, it is quite functional, and with a little time and effort could be made more realistic looking. It is a piece of plywood with some of that plastic cross-stitch fabric screwed to it.

Eventually the turtle got too big, and it looked like he was struggling to climb up so I attached the cross-stitch to a piece of plexiglass for support.

if you want to make a dock that looks like the zoomed one, then use corcbark and silicone it on w/ clear silicone, then put moss/plants around it and it looks natural. any questions just ack, good luck.
