Frozen Mice Availability @ Reptile Shows

Dan6971 Apr 02, 2006 01:20 AM

I will be going to the Reptile Show in Westchester/White Plains, New York on April 23rd, once again this year. I attended my first Reptile Show (the same one) last year.

Anyway, I was wondering if they have frozen mice available for purchase...?

I was looking at RodentPro.com and LLLReptiles.com and found that, while the mice were cheap, I would be paying more than double, due to shipping costs.

I can only get 100 at a time, so ordering online is not wise for me.

However, I was wondering if I could purchase frozen mice at the Reptile Show and save a ton on the shipping charges?

I buy nearly all my rodents at the Ohio show. I recall rodentpro listing the shows they do on their site. You could ask about your show on the events/shows forum and see if someone in your area replies. Duffy

You've probably found it by now. Up above under "general topics A-H" Good luck. Duffy

how far you are from the herp show. you might want to add up the cost of going to the show. tolls, gas usage, cost of admission can be significant. sometimes it is more than you realize. it can be as much or more than the shipping costs. there is a show that i attend that costs more than the shipping and i am only an hour away. but tolls are expensive to this show. another show that is almost two hours away costs me much less to attend. good luck and enjoy the show. Yeah, well I live maybe an hour away from the place and tolls might also cost about $15. So, maybe $30 in gas and tolls, which is still about half the cost of the shipping. I would also go with a friend, so hopefully he would split those costs with me.

Can I even get Rodents at the New York show, in Westchester?

I went to the shows website, and I saw this guy on the vendor list. Michael Hano Rodents 212 795-8972. Have fun at the show. Derek

Does that guy have a web-site?

Shipping can be expensive due largely to the weight of the dry ice. I have about 45 rodent eaters (though I am looking to downsize considerably) and I still save money with buying my frozen rodents through the mail. This might not be true if I had a smaller collection. I buy about 4 or 5 months worth at a time. I also have a chest freezer dedicated to reptile care needs. If you buy your rodents an hour away from home you will need to add the price of a cooler and a block of dry ice to the over all cost.

Have you considered getting together with a few other keepers in your area and placing joint orders to split shipping costs? I know there are other folks who do this and it makes it economically feasible for them.
