Feeding Frequency for PacMan?

Doppleganger Jul 29, 2003 09:42 AM

I was just wondering how often I should be feeding my small PacMan frog. I am giving him 3-4 crickets every other day now.......is this too much? Thanks for any info!

That should be fine, but I feed mine 3 small goldfish every other day. He's probobly a tad smaller than yours.

Since it's still growing, I would feed him everyday, twice daily as much as he will eat in 30 minutes and dust the inverts lightly with calcium and multi-vitamin every other day.

I tried that once and my horned frog died from over eating, it was the prettiest horned frog I had ever seen. My method has worked for years now, for baby horned frogs.

Look at the part about how often you should feed you amphibians and reptiles that is being fed on diet of insects. This is an exerpt from "Reptiles and Amphibians for Dummies" by Patricia Barlett. Maybe you fed it too much fish...I don't know. Was it you that said you give fish every week or other week, or was it other person? Correct me if I'm wrong on this assumption and sorry in advance.

Once again Knot that book is all generalizations, not meant for any specific species of frog. And yes I do feed my frogs fish. You see if a horned frog over eats it still has to digest the food, if it doesn't digest it rots and kills the frog. That is what happened to my horned frog that died of over eating it had nothing to do with what he ate it was how much of it he ate at once. I'm not sure if you know this, but a horned frog will eat until it's stomach explodes and it dies. And I think you should throw that book away and stop quoting something that has no real relevance to the spcies of discussion.

I wonder if over-eating ever happens in the wild? Maybe it has to do with confinement and not needing to search for food.

Right, in the wild a horned frog could eat every day, because it wouldn't be able to get that much food. But in captivity it is gauranteed food every day in certain qauntities. So over eating isn't very likely in the wild unless it's some very large prey items.

Plus, in the wild the frog has to do a lot more "hunting" over a greater area. In captivity the pray can only get so far before the frog catches up to it.
