I would not breed them until they are A-36" and B-36 months. but if they reach only 29-30 as a male you should be o.k. all of my males are 36 or under.
some people have bred them at smaller size (and they will breed at smaller sizes). i'm just going to let mine get another season under them. i have a pair of 03s that could have breed this year but i am going to give them one more year. the female is about 32" and the male slightly less. could they have breed?-yes-but what would happen is she would lose alot of her potential growth on developing eggs. if it was my ONLY pair...OK i would have put them together.lol
this is just how i see it though.
what are your sizes now?

Right now my king is only about 18 inches. I'm having it sexed by a herp vet tomorrow and then I plan on getting a lavender of the opposite sex. Do you keep them apart until you want them to breed? I was planning on keeping the two together except for feeding time. Thanks.

simple answer they will eat each other when not breeding or in breeding season

i keep them apart always. i am pairing up mine now and i stay watchful. i check in on them every 30 min or so just to make sure. these are the two that i have together right now. the top is a male and the bottom the female. she is known to attack her male. he is a good sport. he bred yesterday to another female and her today. he will get a few days rest and then back at it for another round of action. then i have two more like him (albino stripers) that he is going to be paired with next week.good luck on your cal kings they are wonderful snakes.
thanks jason wilson

You need to get 2 winters under their belts, as it were, so an 05 CK could go in 07 IF it has the size to do so. I feed mine twice a week to get some size on them. As for your question in another post, keeping Cal Kings together is iffy at best!! Maybe when they are adults, but while they are growing they can eat one another. I keep Mt. Kings together, no problems, but Cal Kings and Easterns, etc. I keep seperately.
