Question about my first snake...

Star_Of_Life Apr 02, 2006 08:44 PM

As yall know I just got a bloodred hatchling Friday afternoon. Well anyways its a beautiful snakie but they told me that the records show it hadn't eaten since almost 2 weeks ago. What should I do wait the few days for him to get acclimated and then attempt to feed him at the two week mark? Can he last 2 weeks without a meal as long as water supplies are maintained? I hear bloodred neonates are notoriously bad eaters but I have my fingers crossed. I would really appreciate any insight into the matter.

give it a few days to get acclimated.
Two weeks is not a problem.

I agree with Draybar. Also I would feed him a small meal at first. A small pinkie might be easier to eat & digest.

Ok thanks. its kind of weird having a fresh hatchling I have an Albino corn that is a few months old and 12 inches long and he eats great and is always active at night time. But this bloodred is weird like I know I shouldn't have opened it up to make sure he was under his hide but I did cuz I hadn't seen him and he clung onto my finger and came out of the tank and when I put him back in he just sits there and chills and doesn't run to the hide like the albino does in his tank. is this behavior normal to just sit there for awhile before moving again? Anyways I'm sorry to bother yall with incessant questions, but I'd rather deal with yall being upset at me than having a potentially harmed snakie on my hands. Its my paternal instinc kicking in wanting to take the best care of the things I'm responsible for.

I am having problems with this. Is it just me, or is it odd to have a hatchling at this time of year. I would think most snakes are almost yearlings by now. I would think at least 6 months old. Just a thought

Not too weird. I am sure that some breeders con their snakes into breeding early. If you are one of the first people with snakes for the year you are more likely to sell out.

There are quite a few breeders that brumated their snakes early to get a jump on breeding, to get their snakes on the market first.
