Help bloody egg/w pics

kennyscott Apr 02, 2006 08:49 PM

Has anyone come across this before? My girl had laid 2 BIG eggs and her 3rd one was covered w/blood and appears to be attached to the female by some type of sac, even after she has passed this egg, and one afterwards! She is still laying as I post this. Here are some pics.

I saw this post on another forum. You should take her to a vet after all is said and done, do not interrupt her laying. Good luck and post updates. -J.

OK here's what happened. I posted the pics on several sites. One of them was RDR. Cory Woods stated that it was most likely a twisted oviduct, as did another member there, Phil. Given their advice and advice of other friends, I decided to do emergency surgery. I cut a small hole in the sac surrounding the egg and used warm water to push the egg though the oviduct tissue. As soon as the egg was released, the female sucked the oviduct tissue back up inside of her and resumed laying her clutch. She appears to be laying fine now. I may run her on a course of antibiotics just to make sure she heals up ok.

Kenny - I'm glad you got that figured out - keep us updated on how things work out with her! Do you know if this is this something that will put her out of breeding commission or likely to happen again? Best of luck!

I still strongly recommend taking her to an experienced herp vet. Prolapse of the oviduct isn't something that should normally happen and cutting it open yourself may add further complicatins. (unless of course you are a herp vet).

Well, she laid 7 good eggs, after much trial and tribulation. She had about 2 inches of tissue hanging from her vent this morning, and I ran a tub of water and cleaned it up good. She sucked the tissue back up inside of her as I was finishing cleaning it. I was glad to have the chance to clean it. I gave her a bowl of water, and she began drinking almost immediately.
Only slept a few hours last night with all of this going on. Will update more later. I posted more about it on the Ralph Davis Reptiles forums.

Good night all. Hope none of you have to go through anything like this. I hope no more of MY snakes have to go through anything like this!
