i HATE crickets

jos Apr 02, 2006 10:39 PM

I think my own personal hell would to live in a tank of chirping crickets. I hate them they are not soothing they drive me nuts....that said...I realize that they are a necessary evil. But if anyone has any suggestions on alternatives it would be appreciated. My beardies...I love all 6 as if they were my children...go through 3000 crickets a month. I have 2 breeding females and 3 juveniles who eat like horses. I have heard of people giving cat food and the like for protein, but it just seems like it's inherently wrong...I know there's beardie dry food but my guys haven't taken to it. So, any suggestions as to brands or anything would be much appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

You can use slightly smaller crickets that don't have wings yet. Of course that would mean more crickets, but they wouldn't be noisy. Then you could always use lobster roaches. They are more nutritious than crickets, but a pain to sort for different sizes, which is only a problem feeding babies. If they aren't started on dry foods as babies, it can be nearly impossible to get them to eat it. The most widely accepted dry food is RepCal.
