not a reptile cage finished........

this is the 75 gallon aquarium that I have been working on. I finally got the rock formation the way I wanted and all of them are glued together. There is roughly 65lbs of crushed coral and 150lbs of slate and river rock on the tank. There are also a few fake plants just to break up the free swimming area a little. The tank is filtered with 2 aqua clear 110's (aka 500's). At peak flow I will be filtering 1000 gallons of water per hour so I should be able to maintain great water quality with an over-stocked cichlid tank. Let me know what you all think.

ordering them this week. Had to wait for the tank to finish cycling itself. It will be a Hap/Peacock mix that is going in it.

Figured that was the reason but it never hurts to ask. Did you do a quick cycle, or the old school 2 week technique?

did the old school 2 week cycle, well actually the water has been in there for 3 weeks but as I work full time and go to school full time, I haven't had the oppertunity to work with it as much as I want, I finally got the water perfect now and will be ordering the fish probably tues or wed. Putting 27 fish to start out so I should have enough males to cull out some of the ugly duckling females as the fish get larger.

Did you use any fish to cycle the tank? If there is a fish-less cycle method I am not aware of it. Nothing can replace good ol' fish poo!

I just broke my 75 gal down yesterday. Yours looks great!
Are those fake plants siliconed/epoxied to the bottom or that rock in between them? You'll want to do that if they arent because they'll get relocated REAL quick.

they are fake plants siliconed to a flat piece of plastic that is covered by the crushed coral and then the large rock placed in the middle for asthetics. And no I haven't put any fish in the tank as of yet, I'm going to the pet store today to pick up a few mbuna to add a little biological waste before the goodies get here. So far all water checks are perfect though so I'm keeping my hopes up for a really nice display tank.

Great looking. What type power compacts are you using ? I have salt but not reef so just use dual strip flourscent thinking of switching to power compacts as brighter lighting but not the heat of metal halide .
Cichlids are great but to much bickering for me .
