IKEA dimmers

jos Apr 03, 2006 02:20 AM

I just 'borrowed' an IKEA dimmer from my b/f's house and put it on a basking light that was a little too hot to use. The dimmer plugs into the wall/ or timer outlet and the light plugs directly into the dimmer. The dimmer itself is hand held and is on a long cord so you can put it any where that's convenient. So far it's been great I've used my infrared temp gun and have played with the dimmer and now have the perfect basking spot. I think I am going to invest in a few more.

I actually use inline dimmer switches for each level of my baby racks. My baby racks have 4 levels with 3 bins on each level. I use dual fluorescent fixtures with reptisun 10.0's for uvb, and low watt halogens for my basking bulbs. The halogen basking bulbs are what I plug into the inline dimmer switch, and I can control each rows basking temps seperately, and easily just by using the dimmer switch. With a relatively large collection I have found these to be an energy $saver$ when used in conjunction with halogen bulbs, and a real time/headache saver.. Before these dimmers with every season, and temp change it meant changing out the bulbs for lower/higher wattage as needed, and adjusting each cages basking spot.. Now I attach an indoor/outdoor thermometer with the probe right on the basking spot, or use my temp gun, and adjust my dimmer until the temps are perfect.

Just a note. Dimmers cannot be used in conjunction with mercury vapor bulbs such as the megaray, powersun, active uv etc. So if your already using these dimmers are not an option
