Why does she keep laying eggs?

bluebug32 Apr 03, 2006 11:15 AM

My leo is no more than a year old (I've had her for almost 2 months) and right after I got her, she laid 2 eggs, which turned out to be nothing upon incubation. About a month later, she laid 2 more. I've never had this problem and don't understand what's going on, since she's housed alone. Please help!

Thanks in advance.

Beth

It only takes once for a male and female gecko to actually go through the breeding process. One time will give her enough sperm for a whole breeding season. She probably eas caged with a male before you bought her. Although they will still lay sometimes without ever mating. You probably have a few more cluthches on the way- be ready.

Does this mean the eggs could be fertile?

Yes, they could. If she was housed with a male.

They will only lay eggs if housed with a male, correct? They won't just lay eggs on their own?

She could lay eggs that would be infertile without a males presence if she has been well fed and supplemented but usually not back to back like that because it is so taxing on their bodies. Odds are they are probably fertile and I would keep trying to incubate them. Try and keep the temp steady at around 85 degrees F (as long as you don't care about the sex)
