hey bill... about the heat lamps.....

jodscovry Apr 03, 2006 11:55 AM

a few ?s I wonder what the ambaint temp is inside your setup is with the glass closed for 6-8 hours, or do you have thermometers inside and if so what is the ambiant amount also does the plasitc side wall of the cage get hot or soft during the day, 2 have your animales ever been burned their toungs, I'd imagine their poor tounge would probally stick to the heatlamp.... 3 no problems with sand substrant getting under scales and scutes causing infections seems I get that every time i try it even with southern hogs, they seem to have the ability to avoid it in the wild but not in an inclosure. and 4 I think a very large cage is important especally for coachwhips, I think law says cage perimeter must be one and a half times the length of the longest snake held in that inclosure..yours seem happy thou (no offence) mine are in 4'x2'x2' JB

I use "Silica Sand" it is snow white and clean. My ambient is 80ish and the lamps are on a timer at 14hours a day. The basking spot is 120F.
